Casting
Noel Angland
18 years old
Interested in music, skateboarding and socialising
Playing Ben Howard
"I had not heard of Ben Howard until Hannah introuduced me to him.
I really liked his style and he is now one of my favourite artists"
I chose Noel as he was already interested in music and he seemed to really like Ben Howard when I got him to listen to the track. Noel has a typical London boy look, effortlessly 'cool' which linked with Ben Howard's look and style of music.
Natalie Mulligan
18 years old
Interested in acting, music and socialising
Playing 'Steph'
"I was really excited to act in Hannah's music video as I'm interested in drama.
It was a lot of fun and help me with camera work as an actress"
I chose Natalie as I know she is a reliable friend who would be happy to help.
She is good friends with the other two actors which was helpful as it
made the whole process a lot more relaxed and comfortable.
Natalie is a relatable character for a young female audience.
Conor Ryan
18 years old
Interested in music, sketching and socialising
Playing 'Adam' (affair guy)
"I was in Hannah's music video as I liked the song and the artist.
I also thought it would be a lot of fun"
"I was in Hannah's music video as I liked the song and the artist.
I also thought it would be a lot of fun"
I chose Conor as he is also a very reliable friend but also because he
listens to a similar style of music to Ben Howard.
He also has a relatable look for young boys which would help my
target audience be more engaged with the filming.

Conclusion to annotated music videos
- The colours used in the videos below all have similar colours. There are pastel colours and black and white.
This could possibly suggest that the video's are set from the past possibly showing a memory from the artist's. It is coming away from the bright modern video which could interest the audience as it is different. - All similar types of music would be described as folk and acoustic. This is shown in some of the videos with live performances, the instruments used such as guitar, banjo and percussion.
- There is an actual storyline in a couple of the videos. This is interesting as it gives an insight in how the artist portrays the song. They discuss with their director what they want to show which is then portrayed in the video for the viewers.

First draft idea's of storyline
I was hesitant when having the initial idea of filming in Trafalgar Square as it is a busy location with tourists and being in Central London. But I think it would be a perfect location for most of my filming as the song is recalling a memory and so it should be a memorable place which Trafalgar Square is. I will need to get permission to film in the park and cafe I want to film close up and showing the relationship between characters in my video which I think should be fine to get hold of. It is a local park and I won’t be filming children so gaining permission I doubt will cause any problems. And I know the owners of the cafe I need to use, so it shouldn’t be a problem for them.
Depending on how my planning for my video goes the location and storyline may change but for now this is what I am aiming for as I think it will be the most effective with the music.
Ben Howard- London lyrics and annotations
I think it is important to keep referring back to this page as this was my initial reaction when first reading/listening to this song. This could be similar to other audiences initial reaction so by referring back to it every so often it keeps my ideas grounded and believable to the audience. By doing this exercise I think I have a better understanding of what Ben Howard is singing about. I can now use this in my video as it will have a better link.
